Since opening my office in 2021, my approach has always been straightforward: as long as sales covered the costs, the office would remain open. However, if revenue ever fell short, I would transition back to a home office rather than using my personal salary to subsidize expenses. Unfortunately, since September, sales have dropped significantly—not just for us, but for many in the homebrew gaming community.
There are several possible reasons for this shift. One likely factor is the post-pandemic lifestyle change; during COVID-19, many turned to retro and homebrew gaming, but now, with life returning to normal, those same buyers are spending their time and money elsewhere. Inflation and even broader economic or political factors may also be at play. Regardless of the cause, the reality is that sales no longer justify the $1,000+ monthly expenses of maintaining the office. With our lease renewal coming up in March, now is the right time to transition back to a home office setup.
Additionally, Console Moo’s online store is up for renewal in April, requiring another $500 investment to keep it running. Rather than continuing to fund the site under current market conditions, we’ve made the decision to close the store. However, we will retain the Console Moo domain, leaving the door open for a potential return with a more cost-effective storefront in the future.
As for 8-Bit Milli Games, this isn’t the end—just a pause. We still plan to develop new games, but for now, we’re taking time to reassess the market and determine the best direction for future projects. This industry is always evolving, and we want to ensure that when we do return, we’re doing so in a way that makes sense both creatively and financially.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. This isn’t goodbye—it’s just a shift in focus. Stay tuned for what’s next!
